Engr. J. O. Ajah graduated from the University of Ilorin in 1983. In the course of his education, he performed mandatory industrial attachments at COMSAC Ltd, Allied Oil Services and Prospect Textile Mills, Ilorin.
After his mandatory one year national service and a short stint with Schlumberger International, he joined the services of National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) in 1985. Here, he went through the compulsory two-year pupilage program that took him through the Distribution, Generation and Transmission sectors of the electric power industry. He was subsequently deployed to the National Control Center, Osogbo in 9187. He worked in the System Planning department of NCC till 2002 when he was redeployed to Corporate Headquarters of the Transmission Company of Nigeria as Performance Manager for System Operations.

While he was in National Control Center, he was involved, amongst others, the following:
- Successful load forecasting for over 5 years from which economic loading of NEPA/PHCN generators has solely been based.
- Load flow studies of NEPA/PHCN grid using Siemens system analyzer board. These studies are for determining optimum condition of active and reactive load dispatch that permits suitable voltage profile everywhere in the grid system.
- Steady state stability assessment to ensure that loads of various plants are well within practical stability limits.
- Security assessment to ascertain the reliability of grid arrangement in events of loss of certain lines or equipment on forced, emergency or planned outages.
- Post-fault analysis of all major grid system disturbances.
He was Chairman Committee for 4th edition review of System Operations Operational Procedures; member of power industry Initial Transition Steering Group; member of System Operations Grid Code Review Panel and member of System Operations Working Group.
He is a corporate member, Nigerian Society of Engineers – MNSE; AIMEE. He retired from the services of Transmission Company of Nigeria in 2012 and joined the services of Szotyola Energy in February 2013.
