Engr. F. C. Onye started his education in Ghana where he acquired Full Technological Certificate in Power System from Kumasi Polytechnic in 1977. He joined National Electric Power Authority, now Power Holding Company of Nigeria shortly after graduation.
He started his career as a Power System Protection, Control and Metering Technologist in Kainji Power Station. He was later transferred to Aba Transmission Substation from where he went back to school. He graduated Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria in 1986.

He got promoted to Principal Manager in 2002 and was posted to Afam Works Centre within the Port Harcourt Transmission Region of Transmission Company of Nigeria. He worked in other Works Centres before finally being redeployed to Corporate Headquarters in 2011.
While in the services of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, Engr. Onye was actively engaged in:
- Planning, controlling and supervision of System projects;
- Maintenance of electrical power equipment;
- Detailed analysis of system events;
- Pre-commissioning and commissioning of substation equipment of various voltage levels;
- Liaison between Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and other stakeholders in the energy supply sector.
Engr. Onye is a Corporate Member of IEEE, IET, and Nigerian Society of Engineers.
